A toad, a toad! a frog, a frog!

SHORT FILM

MADE with KAIUS & URTE JANUS

Kaius, a five-year-old boy, is wondering about the spirit of a dead mole. As his mother, artist Urte Janus, works on her sculptures, he follows the neighbours’ dog into the forest. When night comes and thunder calls, Kaius discovers the spell of the woods.

This short film conjures a world through the imaginary of a boy. In search of how stories are created—not just by humans, but also by things and places—we stayed in a forest in Lithuania, at Urte's home, where the film gradually took shape. As Kaius films, we follow. As Urte sculpts bones from an almost distant past, the land murmurs the word mother.
